Who is Mr. William C. Michael, O.P.?

Mr. and Mrs. Michael in 2024.

Mr. William C. Michael, O.P., is the founder and headmaster of the Classical Liberal Arts Academy. A Dominican tertiary devoted to the preservation and renewal of classical Catholic education, Mr. Michael has spent more than two decades researching, restoring, and republishing the original sources of the classical liberal arts curriculum. He is the author of Understanding Classical Catholic Education and numerous scholarly articles on classical philosophy, Scholastic theology, and Catholic education.

Since founding the Academy in 2008, he has worked to make the full classical curriculum—rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition, the writings of Aristotle, and the teachings of the Church—available to modern students through a mastery-based, academically rigorous program. His work combines faithful adherence to Catholic doctrine with a commitment to restoring the authentic methods of the ancient and medieval schoolmasters.

Mr. Michael and his wife, Dania—who is also a professed Lay Dominican and a student of Classics from Rutgers University—have devoted their married life to the work of Catholic education. Together they have ten children, born between 2000 and 2014, all of whom have been homeschooled in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy. Dania assists behind the scenes in the daily work of the CLAA, supporting the Academy’s mission and families.
