Mr. William C. Michael, O.P., is the founder and headmaster of the Classical Liberal Arts Academy and a Lay Dominican in the Catholic Church. Mr. Michael received an honors degree in Classics and Ancient History from Rutgers University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He led the CLAA to accreditation with Cognia in 2024. He has been studying and teaching the classical liberal arts for over 30 years.

When looking into classical Catholic studies, parents and students often ask, “How much time should we spend studying?” This is the wrong question to be asking. The real question is, “How much time CAN we study?” The time we have to study must be determined by the responsibilities we have in life. Only when we establish a responsible, balanced schedule can we learn how much time we have available for study. Once we see what time is available, the answer is: all of it. Today, we celebrate the memory of St. Alphonsus Liguori. It is important for us to study the lives of the saints not for trivia, but for imitation. Let us see, first, the care he received from his parents, who made sure to give him the best possible education.
