Diploma Program

The Classical Liberal Arts Academy will offer the strongest students the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and transcript for use in college admissions.  Unlike our self-paced courses for adult and homeschool students, this program will be strictly run, with students working directly with the Academy headmaster throughout their studies.

“M.I.T. will accept a diploma and transcript from the Classical Liberal Arts Academy.”

III. Enrollment

All students enrolled in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy diploma program study at home under the supervision of their parents, but the curriculum, study materials, assessments, grades, records and support are provided by the CLAA staff. States normally distinguish between public school, private school and home school students, in which case students enrolled in the CLAA diploma program will likely register locally as homeschool students. Some states are beginning to recognize “online school” and “digital learning” programs, which may be chosen if available.

An independent home school student is a student whose curriculum, instruction, assessment and records are managed directly by his parents. Independent home school students may not request a diploma or transcript from the Classical Liberal Arts Academy, but receive their school documentation from their parents. (This is normal.)

To receive a Classical Liberal Arts Academy diploma and transcript, a student must be formally enrolled in the diploma program and must fulfill all requirements of the program.  No student may request a CLAA diploma or transcript who is enrolled as an independent homeschool student.

IV. Attendance

Students seeking diplomas and transcripts from the CLAA must complete tasks assigned on a weekly planner managed by the Academy headmaster each week. Each week, the student’s planner will be reviewed and tasks will be updated. Tasks that have not been completed will be in orange text showing that they are overdue. After two weeks, any tasks not updated will be turned red. A student with red tasks on his planner is not making progress and will be placed on probation.

Students must check in to the CLAA Study center and submit a study summary to track attendance. Students must have a minimum of 180 days of study recorded each calendar year. The normal academic year is 180 days (September – June) but may extend beyond that artificial and unadvised limit.

When working with the headmaster, there is a great deal of flexibility possible, so long as minimum requirements are satisfied.

V. Curriculum

Diploma program students will pursue the study of the classical liberal arts, classical philosophy, Scholastic theology and the humanities, while also satisfying modern K-12 compulsory education requirements. Details of these studies are laid out in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy’s K-12 Study Plans.

Students should work to satisfy all modern requirements and add to them classical Catholic studies following the recommendations in the K-12 Study Plans.

VI.  Standardized Testing

Please contact us for our College Board CEEB code.

All students enrolled in the CLAA diploma program will be required to take grade level standardized tests each Spring.

ACT/SAT Prep will be included for high school students.

VII. Diplomas & Transcripts

Students will be provided with transcripts when their diploma program studies end.  CLAA transcripts will allow students to apply for admission to selective colleges and other career paths.

VIII.  College & Career

Non-academic career destinations requiring an accredited diploma will accept a high school diploma from the CLAA. Some, like the US Military, will confirm the CLAA’s accreditation status and will request written verification of your transcript.

Colleges and universities will accept the CLAA’s accredited diploma and transcript. It is important to know, however, that selective colleges evaluate students in the following six areas:

  1. Curriculum Choice
  2. Achievement
  3. Recommendations
  4. Essays
  5. Extracurricular Activity
  6. Standardized Testing

The CLAA can help with many but not all of these requirements. One admissions representative at a very selective university explained exactly what they will be seeking to understand in the admissions process from a CLAA graduate:

“We are interested in knowing why a student chose their unique school context, as opposed to a more traditional setting, and ask that students reflect on how they have grown as a scholar in this setting, and how they might contribute to our community.”

The following colleges and universities have provided written confirmation that diplomas and transcripts from the Classical Liberal Arts Academy will be accepted:
