The Classical Liberal Arts Academy is an apostolate of two Catholic classicists: Mr. & Mrs. William C. Michael. The Academy was founded in 2008 with a mission “to research, restore, publish and teach the classical Catholic curriculum studied and taught by wise man and saints throughout history.”
Mr. & Mrs. Michael are the parents of ten home-schooled children, ages 7 to 22, all of whom have studied in the Academy. Their eldest three children are members of the U.S. Army Reserves (Military Police, Combat Medic, Combat Engineer) and are currently engaged in full-time college studies (Criminal Justice, Political Science). Their younger seven children are studying at home, most of whom are planning paths similar to their older siblings. The Michaels live on a quiet family farm in rural North Carolina and are parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Monroe, NC.
Note: Mr. & Mrs. Michael are currently in formation as Inquirers with the Third Order of St. Dominic and intend to join the Dominican community in the fall of 2022.
Mr. William C. MichaeL
Mr. Michael studied Classics & Ancient History at Rutgers University, where he graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He has spent 25 years researching and studying the classical liberal arts and classical philosophy full-time. Mr. Michael worked as an prep school Classics teacher from 2000-2008 before founding the Academy. Outside of his Academy work, Mr. Michael enjoys running, gardening and studying classical natural philosophy.
Mrs. Dania C. Michael
Mrs. Michael studied Classics & Elementary Education at Rutgers University, and worked as a elementary private school teacher before become a full-time homeschooling mother in 2000. She has spent over 20 years working in homeschooling and in providing homeschool support to families in the Academy. Outside of her Academy work, Mrs. Michael enjoys gardening, baking and participating in the children’s extracurricular activities (gym, ballet, etc.).
Our work in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy is possible because of the quiet, peaceable life we enjoy in rural North Carolina.
