What courses are recommended for a 6th grade student?

The Classical Liberal Arts Academy is not arranged to serve the modern K-12 school model and does not recommend that homeschooling families follow such a model. Homeschooling families have no excuse for studying only 180 days per year as modern schools do.  Much more needs to be done to provide children with a classical Catholic education.

We recommend that parents learn the difference between pursuing Wisdom through real classical Catholic studies and satisfying modern school requirements.  Parents should not choose one or the other, but learn how to satisfy both in a responsible way.

For a full explanation of course recommendations, please see: Course Recommendations by Age/Grade.  First grade recommendations are as follows:

1. Classical Catholic Studies (Ages 11-14)

Children getting started a little later should begin in the following courses:

  1. Trivium
  2. Quadrivium
    • n/a
  3. Philosophy
  4. Theology
  5. Humanities

2. Grade 6 (Ages 11-12)

In the “middle school” years, students must begin preparing for the rigors of high school studies. In addition to the classical Catholic studies listed above, students are recommended to complete the following courses to satisfy modern grade level requirements:

  1. English
  2. Mathematics
