Mastery of the basic facts of Arithmetic is an obstacle for many home-schooled students. Memorization requires consistent study and great repetition, and these are two challenges in homeschooling.
To help with the memorization of Arithmetic facts, I recommend using what I call "Arithmetic Triangles", which are flashcards designed for the memorization of multiple facts at the same time. Most importantly to establish in the mind a relationship between three numbers, which proves most helpful in the long run.
Students should drill with these cards daily, memorizing the facts in all directions:
- 2 plus 3 equals 5.
- 3 plus 2 equals 5.
- 5 minus 3 equals 2.
- 5 minus 2 equals 3.
By drilling in this way, the relationship between 2, 3 and 5 is established in the student's mind.
The same can be done with multiplication and division.
I will produce some video content to help with the use of these, but recommend them for immediate use by all Academy students.
