The Academy's Art History course covers the major movements, styles, and periods in the history of art. It is typically a survey course that provides an overview of the development of art from ancient times to the present day.
The course begins with ancient art and architecture, such as Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art, and then moves on to cover the art of the Middle Ages, including the Romanesque and Gothic periods. It then covers the art of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods, and the art of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Impressionism, Expressionism, and contemporary art.
In addition to studying the art itself, this course also explores the social, political, and cultural contexts in which the art was created. Students learn about the artists and the societies in which they lived, as well as the techniques and materials used to create the art. They also learn how to analyze and interpret art, and how to evaluate different art movements and styles.
The goal of this course is to give students a broad understanding of the history of art and its role in human civilization, and to develop their ability to critically examine and appreciate works of art.
