Description

In the 16th century, the Catholic Church came under attack from a number of enemies.  These enemies included not only the Protestants, who attacked the authority of the hierarchy of the Church and the Sacraments, but also anti-Christian philosophers who wished to destroy replace the Church’s Scholastic philosophy with their own worldly ideas.

Many saints rose up at that time to fight for the Church, but none were so influential as the “Company of Jesus”, led by St. Ignatius of Loyola.  The “Jesuits”, as they were later called, fought successfully against the Protestants and false philosophers throughout all of Europe. The focus of their work was education.

The Jesuits worked to establish free schools that preserved the classical Catholic education that was known to be fundamental to Catholic culture.  In 1599, the Jesuits published a “Rule of Studies” (Ratio Studiorum), which detailed the educational program that they taught to resist and overcome the evil influences of the day.  This education included the study of the classical languages, the classical liberal arts, classical philosophy and Scholastic theology.  With God’s blessing, the Jesuit schools were instrumental in filling Europe with saints, priests and monks for several centuries.

Today, we face even greater challenges than the Jesuits did.  No “inquisition” can be launched to root out the evil influence of modern digital media.  The enemies of the Catholic faith are world leaders in communications technology and business and are not only funding the development of anti-Christian educational programs, but are making them available for free throughout the world.  Meanwhile, Christian schools are raising tuition in their old-world brick and mortar schools and losing influence.  In fact, today there are half as many American children in Catholic schools as there were in 1970.

In the Classical Liberal Arts Academy, we are working to imitate the work of the old Jesuits and restore classical Catholic education in the 21st century.  To do this, we must make strategic use of modern communication technology, and we must make these studies available freely to all who are interested in them.

To accomplish this mission, we need the help of Catholics who share our mission and deisire to help.  Our costs of operation are very low–a few thousand dollars per month–and donations of any amount are significant when multiplied by the number of supporters available.

If you share our goals and can help please do.  You don’t need to donate a million dollars or even a hundred dollars.  We simply ask that you donate something.

In gratitude for the support we receive, we offer the recitation the Rosary daily for the intentions of all those who share with us in the work of restoring classical Catholic education.  We also send private updates on the Academy’s work to our donors several times per year.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.  May God reward you for all sacrificies you make for the Gospels’ sake.
