In the classical liberal arts curriculum, Astronomy is the study of magnitude in motion, or mobile bodies. This study finds its principal application in the study of the heavens, from which it derives its name. Astronomy is a controversial subject because of the conflict between the Ptolemaic and Copernican models of the universe. In the Classical Liberal Arts Academy, we provide for the study of the ancient Ptolemaic system, as well as the modern Copernican system, and encourage open-mindedness among students, as they study to learn the arguments of both sides.
