2025-2026 Live Class Schedule

Live ClassES IN THE CLAA

Live classes in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy are not like live classes in modern schools. The Classical Liberal Arts Academy allows all students to work for mastery at their own pace, which modern schools do not do. Modern schools force all students to begin together, move through content at a scheduled pace, finish the course at the same time, and then receive grades based on what each student accomplished. These are two very different models of education; the modern school model is designed to serve minimum requirements, the CLAA model is designed to support self-paced mastery study in all subject areas.

In CLAA live classes, each class consists of four parts:

  1. a reading of a selected passage;
  2. an exposition of the passage;
  3. a discussion of the passage;
  4. open discussion.

Students present for the live class meeting have different relations to the passage studied. Some students have already progressed beyond the passage, some are currently studying it, and some haven’t yet reached it. Nevertheless, the meeting is beneficial for all since those who have studied it have an opportunity for review and new insights; those currently studying it are helped with their present academic tasks; those who haven’t yet reached it get a preview of what is to come, which is helpful for their present studies. Most importantly, the teacher helps the students to understand the significance of the passage studied in the overall content of the students’ classical Catholic studies and intellectual life in general.

Each live class will begin with the reading of the next passage in the course. The teacher will make sure that the passage is read clearly and will provide help with any new vocabulary or difficult language included in the reading. The teacher will then discuss the passage, explaining its content in way that is helpful for all students. During the exposition and after, the teacher will engage the students with questions for discussion. Lastly, the students will be given time for open questions and discussion with the teacher, which may reach beyond the immediate content of the class meeting.

Live classes will be recorded, with content of greatest interest to viewers in the first half of the recording and diminishing as the recording continues. Live student participation will be minimal in the first half of the meeting and will increase as the meeting goes on.

Students of all levels are welcome to join and participate in live class meetings.
