In our online Latin courses, we restore the method of teaching that was used by the classical masters themselves and which was taught through history by the best schoolmasters. Latin Students are immersed in real Latin reading from day one and study a proven Latin Grammar text.
Level I Online Latin Courses
In the first level of our online Latin courses, students focus on building their Latin vocabulary and studying the first two parts of Latin Grammar: Orthography and Etymology. This work is done through our Latin Reading I and Latin Grammar I courses.
TRV-101 Latin Reading I
In this course, students study St. Jerome’s Latin translation of the Gospel of St. John (Greek). Our course provides word-by-word expositions of the first five chapters of the Gospel. Through this study, students become comfortable with Latin pronunciation, build a rich Christian vocabulary and become familiar with Latin word order, expressions, etc.
TRV-121 Latin Grammar I
In Latin Grammar I, students master Latin Orthography and Etymology using the famous Latin Grammar text of the Jesuit schoolmaster Emmanuel Alvarez. Students learn the Latin alphabet and its pronunciation, as well as the eight parts of speech and their forms.
TRV-131 Latin Vocabulary
In this optional enrichment course, students add to their Latin vocabulary through a topic-by-topics study of the famous Orbis Sensualium Pictu by John Comenius.
Level II Online Latin Courses
In the second level of our online Latin courses, students continue reviewing Latin Etymology for mastery, and move on to Latin Syntax, which teaches the rules of sentence-building. TRV-212 Latin Reading II
In this course, students study Cicero’s letters to his friends and relatives (Ad Familiares), studying the collection prepared for students by John Sturmius, as recommended in Roger Ascham’s Schoolmaster (1570).
