CLASSICAL STUDIES & TUTORING FOR CATHOLIC STUDENTS OF ALL AGES
Douay Rheims Catholic Bible Online
The Douay Rheims Catholic Bible was published in its entirety around in 1610–a year before the English King James Version was published. It was produced by Catholic priests who were facing persecution in England during the Protestant Reformation and was approved as an acceptable English translation by the Catholic Church. Around 1750, Bishop Richard Challoner revised the Douay Rheims Catholic Bible to move away from the heavily Latinized English vocabulary, towards a text that resembled the King James Version, which had set the standard for the English language. The Douay Rheims Catholic Bible contains 73 books, established by the Council of Trent in 1546. We are happy to provide free access to the text of the Douay Rheims Catholic Bible online.
