When I was in college, I started a small bookstore that allowed me to purchase school textbooks at a discount for myself and my classmates. The bookstore work I did started to get the attention of others and I began selling books to friends, churches and homeschool families. It was this bookstore work that forced me to learn how to develop and manage websites–when the internet was just getting started. During that time, I also volunteered to help an old couple who ran a used bookstore on Sunday afternoons to raise support for a local historical society in central New Jersey. So, I’ve been involved, to some degree, in the bookstore business for over 25 years.
In 2008, when the Classical Liberal Arts Academy went online, I started and managed a successful online bookstore that served Catholic families with books, videos, music and more. I stopped around 2011, when my work with the boarding school began.
I’m happy to announce that over the past month, I have worked to re-establish contacts with my old suppliers and will be opening a new Classical Catholic Bookstore here, as a service of the Classical Liberal Arts Society.
My intention in opening this bookstore is threefold. First, I desire to give Catholic families easy access to the finest classical and Catholic resources available. Second, I desire to raise financial support for the Classical Liberal Arts Society in an honorable way. Third, I desire to use the bookstore to preach the Catholic faith to others, by introducing them to the finest works of history’s wise men and saints.
On the website, I have already begun adding recommended titles, but I am able to order just about any titles that are in print today. Our prices will not be as low as those found at a secular mega-store like Amazon.com, but that’s because Amazon’s prices are not sustainable. I will be offering our books at reasonable prices for customers who want their purchases to benefit a Catholic organization doing good work. After all, where we buy is just as important as what we buy.
I look forward to helping families enjoy the best books available. Please contact me with any questions you have about available books, policies, etc.
May God bless your families,
Mr. William C. Michael
