Classical Catholic Education and Career Preparation

Today is Tuesday, July 13 and yesterday, I published a silly little illustration, short video on YouTube where I explained or illustrated how classical Catholic education relates to modern college admission. And a parent who enjoyed that video, wrote to me and asked me if I would do a talk on how classical Catholic education relates to modern career preparation or vocational preparation. And I’m happy to do so. So in this talk, what I’d like to talk about is, how does classical Catholic education, studying the classical liberal arts, Catholic philosophy or classical philosophy and Catholic theology? How does that prepare students in 2021, for modern careers, or even religious vocations in the 21st century, and I’d be happy to talk about that, and get into this discussion a little bit. Now, before we begin, let’s let’s realize something. I’m a 46 year old man with 10 children. I own a home on a farm in North Carolina. And I’ve provided for a family as a married man for 22 years 10 children, three are currently in college. All of my children have been healthy. And so to pretend that when I talk about classical Catholic education, I’m some sort of unemployed 26 year old graduate student ranting from his campus apartment about how the world needs to change. You need to realize that I’m no such person. I’m not some idle, cultural critic. I’m not some college professor who’s been divorced three times, who lives alone in an apartment, complaining about the change the world needs. I’m a, I’m a married, self employed Catholic father. That’s provided for a family of 12. As provided for a family as the sole income earner for 22 years, I’ve started my own businesses. I’ve worked in modern education. And I’ve helped my children transition into successful adult careers, without any trouble at all, even though their background has been entirely based on study in the classical Liberal Arts Academy. So all of these, all of these practical objections that people raise are unfounded. And I’m going to talk and explain why they’re unfounded. Why actually, they’re the opposite of the truth. And why parents should be more zealous to provide their children, their Catholic children with a classical Catholic education in the 21st century. So get all of these silly arguments out of the way that the people proposing these ideas don’t understand the real world, just a bunch of nonsense. I studied at a public university. I worked in some of the best schools anywhere, started my own business in 2008. And have provided for a family for over 20 years. three kids in college. Don’t give me the practical talk that this is just pie in the sky craziness. It’s not pie in the sky craziness. It’s ancient wisdom. That’s as true today. As it ever Wasn’t the history of the world plus, let’s go back into history and look at the people who had this classical Catholic education. Let’s go back into history and ask Were there any successful people in the ancient world? What were the people in the ancient world who studied the classical liberal arts, a bunch of backwards cave men? who sat around reading books, staring up at the sky and spinning around in circles? Or were they practical men? Were they men who actually did things in the world? Were they innovators? Were they prudent? If you go back before the 1850s, the only education that ever existed was classical liberal arts education. It was the education that was given to princes whose work was to govern nations and cities and different different parts of kingdoms or territories. They were in charge of militaries. They were in charge of international trade, shipping. They were the people that were in charge. And yet their education was a liberal education. And don’t end Don’t be silly and think that this liberal has anything to do with modern party politics and all that nonsense. We’re talking about the education of freemen. When we look at the ancient world, ancient Greece, it was the philosophers who were called in to organize and arrange the cities. They were the practical men. They were the only ones who could figure out how things should be organized. They were the ones who could start from universal principles and work them down into the details of practical affairs. It was the philosophers who did this stuff. Aristotle was the one call done by Philip of mastodon to educate his son, Prince Alexander, who would then go on to conquer the entire world. Is that not practical? It was the Prophet Moses, who administered the law in Israel and governed the nation and founded the nation of Israel. Is that not practical? It was, statesmen like Cicero, a stoic philosopher with a classical education that organized the Roman Empire and led the Roman Republic is that not practical? Thomas Moore was the chancellor of England, the classically educated man who held the most powerful position in England. Is that not practical. When it was time to educate his children, he gave them all classical education is that not practical? So let’s stop this nonsense of talking about how modern education is responsible and practical. When we look at this modern society, we’re living in a welfare state where people can’t figure out what to do for a living, can’t raise a family can’t keep marriages together, let alone govern nations can’t produce a religious vocation. Regardless of all of the Catholic schools and homeschools. And instead of pretending that this modern education has somehow produced some modern benefits, let’s realize that all of the people who actually lead and drive the modern industries are the ones who criticize modern education and say that college education is useless. Bill Gates was a college dropout so he doesn’t support your K to 12 college education theories. Ilan musk went to college but attributes none of his success to his college studies and complains constantly about how colleges make people unable to manage businesses in the real market. You have people like Gary Vee, who are considered world leaders in marketing, who constantly tell everyone that a college education is a waste of money and time. The people who are actually leading in most of the industries placed almost no value on the modern educational system. And yet the people who are not successful in that same system imagine that they would be successful if they just had more of it. And for most homeschoolers, for the most ambitious homeschoolers. Parents imagine that if they can help their children, children achieve more of the modern curriculum, they’ll be successful. It’s like saying that eating more of the unhealthy food will make you healthy. Maybe it’s just that the other kids don’t eat enough, and that’s why they’re unhealthy. Maybe if they ate more, they would suddenly become strong and healthy. See, you’ve got 1000s of years of kings, princes, statesmen, military leaders, philosophers, authors, religious leaders, saints, doctors of the church, on and on, innovators in every field founders of sciences, all of whom enjoyed classical Christian education, not the modern Dorothy Sayers, nonsense. But the real thing, real classical Christian education, the seven liberal arts, classical languages, reasoning, rhetoric, the quadrivium philosophy studies, literature, history. And that education equipped them to lead and innovate, to invent, to manage for all of world history. The Kings and rulers governed through the classical liberal arts, through philosophy, and in most places through their theology. And what caused some nations to prosper was their superior philosophy. Superior theology. And yet here in 2021, we have Christian parents. Contrary to what the leaders in the industries, say, walking around talking about how moving away from the modern public school curriculum, which is all that it is, no matter how anyone tries to dress it up, or decorate it with classical words, or pictures of saints, it’s just the public school curriculum. And parents are going to try and justify abandoning the classical liberal arts for this relatively useless modern education and pretend that somehow this education is what drives modern business and technology and industry. This modern education is what’s going to provide Catholic students with what they need for religious vocations, in the midst of a vocations crisis that the world has never seen. And the principal thing that has changed is that we’ve moved from classical Catholic education, which never failed to produce vocations to this modern education, which can’t produce a vocation. And the vocations that do arise out of modern schools can’t be credited to those schools are simple acts of individual grace. For example, I went to a public school, but I don’t attribute my knowledge or work in the classical liberal arts, to my public school education. That’s ridiculous. So before we even get into any details, if you’re an honest person, you have to agree to stop pretending that giving your children a modern education is some reasonable plan to most effectively prepare them for adult life. If you even say that You’re just kidding yourself the number one reason why parents say that is because a, they have no idea what any other alternative is because they know nothing other than the modern educational system and be they’re afraid to do or simply too lazy to do anything else. That’s the only reason anyone is giving their children a modern education in Catholic circles, the only reason colleges don’t require it no matter what anyone says they try to blame it on colleges as if the colleges require a mug that’s, that’s a lie. colleges do not require anyone to pursue any specific curriculum or course of education, colleges make a list of studies that they would like students to have completed. And these thing these studies include English language arts, How could your children get a classical Catholic education and not satisfy all of the English language arts requirements? How would that even be possible? It’s not possible. It’s an excuse. They require a four for the equivalent of four years of high school math. Do you think the local high school is graduating mathematicians? Or kids who barely know math? We’re talking high school level math. How can a student who studied classical arithmetic and classical geometry who knows multiple languages and has studied philosophy, how will he struggle to understand algebra, which is relatively baby work? compared to these classical studies? No student with a classical education will struggle to study the subjects that were invented by the men who shared their classical education. The father of modern algebra is Leonard eular. Do you think that Leonard eular went to a school that taught math and science? Do you even think through that for one minute? Do you even think for one minute? how men could have been educated? Who invented the sciences? Do you even do you do take one minute to think if algebra didn’t exist? How was the man educated? Who systematized the science of algebra? I’ll tell you he was classically educated. That’s how how about someone like Sir Isaac Newton. Sir Isaac Newton, was the founder of modern mathematics based physics. one of the founders of the science of calculus, how was certain Isaac Newton educated, so that he would be able to invent a new branch of mathematics and a new theory of natural philosophy. If he himself was in a modern K to 12 school program? How would he have been able to create a new science he wouldn’t have. If he was given the modern dumbed down education for future factory workers, he would not have been able to develop calculus to serve his theory of physics. He was given a classical education and then used that classical education in his life’s work in the natural sciences and mathematics. So any of these arguments? If we try to make an argument in the name of mathematics, we fail. modern education is not responsible for the sciences that it attempts to teach. The sciences that it attempts to teach unsuccessfully, were developed by classically educated men. Put on some classical music and tell everyone who your favorite performers are favorite composers. Mozart, Bach, you love Gregorian chant? Did any of that music come from modern education? Of course not. Of course not. The inspiration for that music came from religion from Christian religion, and from classical liberal arts education from classical philosophy. That’s where that music came from. And that’s why there’s no new music. That’s why you can get 10 people together who claim that they love the Latin mass. But you can’t get a Gregorian choir together because none of the people have studied Latin prosody. Which the Benedictines who were charged with the restoration of Gregorian chant in the early 19. hundred’s said was necessary to understand Gregorian chants. So we can, we can get together and attempt to perform some Gregorian chant. But we’re just going to do it so that it hopefully, is decent to listen to, but we’re not restoring the art and science of Gregorian chant. That’s for classically educated people. We’re not going to raise composers who listen to Mozart, or listen to Bach. And then pretend they’re going to go compose music with a K to 12. Education. None of the education of those composers as if their education was optional. We’re not going to raise a Shakespeare because the modern student wouldn’t even know the content to base his plays on look at Shakespeare’s content. Half of its classical mythology, English history. Shakespeare for whatever time he was in school, received the classical education. That’s why we find references to William Lily’s Latin grammar in Shakespeare’s plays. So music, the arts, the math and sciences, politics, military, religious life, all through history dominated by students of the classical liberal arts, when does your defense of the modern education begin? Where does it begin? When I get done putting all of the representatives of classical education up on the stage, to represent my side of this debate, who do you put on your side? And the people who you do put up on your side to defend modern education? Will they actually agree with what you say? Or do they actually contradict what you say and say the opposite. You’re going to put people like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and other tech leaders, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, you’re going to put them up on the stage and think that they’re going to support you and your lazy K to 12 education for your children. And while you claim that you’re doing it for the sake of their success in modern business, the people that you offer as models wouldn’t even agree with you. Let’s be honest, there’s two reasons why Catholic parents give their children modern education a they don’t know anything else. And be they’re afraid or too lazy to learn anything else. All the rest all the all the explanations and reasons are not even sincere. They’re just excuses. The Saints don’t support you. The philosophers of the ancient world don’t support you. You can put a picture of Aristotle on your fake classical education book. But your children aren’t even studying Aristotle. So why is his picture on the book? You can put a picture of Thomas Aquinas on the front of your religion workbook, but That’s not what St. Thomas taught. That’s not what St. Thomas studied. So why are you putting St. Thomas’s picture on that book? Why don’t you take the picture of St. Thomas off and just give your children the actual book that St. Thomas wrote? Wouldn’t that make more sense than faking it with some silly pictures? Instead of naming your homeschool program or your homeschool, after the Virgin Mary, and thinking that because you’ve got pictures of the mother of our Lord, on your books that now all of a sudden, this is a program that Mary herself would approve of. When the church doctors taught that Mary was given by grace, the knowledge of the classical liberal arts what you say and do isn’t even honest, it isn’t even true. You’re pretending that pictures represent some kind of reality, while you live denying the facts of Catholic history. So what else can I say? for this talk of a concern about business or vocations. You have no support on any side from any source, forgiving some lazy curriculum like Seaton, or mother of divine grace. You have no support from modern business. You have no support from church history. You have no support from any saints or doctors of the church. You have no support from any actual philosophers whose pictures are on the websites. So why are you doing it? You can’t give a reason except that everyone else does it. You don’t know any better. And you’re not willing to learn something else. That’s the only reason don’t blame it on business. Don’t blame it on college admission. That’s not true. So if you’re willing to be honest, and I know from experience that very few are. But if you’re one of the few who’s willing to be honest, let’s talk about how specifically classical Catholic education will better prepare your children for a future in business or religious vocations. First of all, the nature of business, the nature of life in the world, if there was one characteristic that we could use, to summarize the nature of life in the world, it would be this constantly changing, constantly changing in all practical matters, in all practical matters, life is constantly changing, constantly changing. The way things are actually done in business is constantly changing. There is constantly new development, new technology, new products, changes in how people buy things, how people order things, how things are delivered, how things are advertised, how people get information, constantly changing, constantly changing. And therefore any attempt to prepare someone for business is impossible. Because the businesses in all markets in all industries are constantly changing. So any talk of preparing someone for a business like modern schools try to do when they give sixth graders computer lessons. Not realizing that by the time that 12 year old enters the workforce, following his mindless k 12 and college preparatory educational plan, he’ll be entering the workforce 12 years later and nothing will be anything like what he learned in that sixth grade computer class. The classes are complete waste of time. And worse, that class replaced something useful for that chemistry class where fake lab experiments were organized, that falsely oversimplified the actual work of chemists and scientists, so that a bunch of little 14 year olds could imagine that there’s some kind of lab technicians. Because they can do some fake experiment and pretend to do something that they’re not at all doing. Or a physics class where you can’t get into the physics because the kids don’t actually know the math that real physics is based on, nor can they address any of the complexity of real physics. So we’ll just create a fake physics that’s based on 10th grade math. And we’ll have all of these little kids walking around thinking that they’re Einsteins. Because they imagine that they can calculate how long it will take a stone to fall off a cliff, even though all of their calculations would be false. Because they actually aren’t learning real physics, they’re learning a fake school version, just so that we can pretend that we’re interested in science. That’s not how scientists are raised. That’s not how the scientists would tell you to educate your children. It’s what the ignorant people do. To pretend that they’re learning. Let’s have a science fair and have a bunch of kids living in the digital age prepare, folded poster port, poster board displays. And let’s waste weeks and weeks preparing for this quote unquote, science fair. The teachers are doing this because it excuses them from the work of teaching, and allows them to just fill days of class time with activities. The students like it, because you’re not learning, you’re just playing with materials. And pretending you’re some kind of scientist. And the whole entire event is disconnected from the actual media of the generation. What’s the point of it, just idle school activity. The world is constantly changing. You cannot train children for success in business by trying to teach them what they’re going to do in business. You don’t know. They don’t know. No one knows. When Ilan Musk was 18 years old. He didn’t know that he was going to invent electric cars, or that he was going to invent reusable rockets. Funded as a private company. He didn’t know he was going to do those things. When he was 15 years old and was playing around with computers. He didn’t know that he was going to help to invent PayPal. But he had something that has made him not only useful in one field, but in all fields, because it’s a wisdom combined with zeal, and a willing to willingness to work that has made him capable of succeeding in multiple fields. Which is how wise men in the past. Always were who’s the who’s the father of ancient biology, Aristotle, reasoning, Aristotle, ethics, Aristotle, metaphysics Aristotle. How is he so good at every different subject? Because he’s wise, that’s how and he works hard. Before Aristotle, it was Plato. You can’t raise children for success in Practical occupations, because the nature of the market and Business and Technology and every industry is that it’s constantly changing. And therefore any attempt to pretend that you’re going to send your kid to some Science High School, or give him some modern education that’s going to prepare him for a career. It’s just a lie. It’s not even how business works. What the children need, what the children need, is an education in virtue. And this doesn’t mean that because Charlotte Mason in the 18 hundred’s, some Protestant woman, working in education, decided that she had the right way. She had it all figured out how children should be trained, and people talk about her and follow her as if no one had raised a virtuous soul. Before Charlotte Mason showed up and Protestant England leaves you to wonder. Why are we talking about Charlotte Mason? Why are we talking about Dorothy Sayers as if there was no education already in place in England for 1000 years before she even was born. Why are we Why would we get our idea of education from Charlotte Mason or Dorothy Sayers? Why not john Dewey, or Horace Mann, you probably don’t even know who they are. Because you picked up this character from some homeschool program. And because that because that model of education could keep inside the K to 12 model, you are willing to go out after it, you’re willing to go out without actually going out of anything. And that’s why people latch on to all these names, all these silly movements, and fads because you can pretend to be some kind of thinker, or some kind of risk taker, while you don’t actually leave the same system. It’s still a K to 12 education, it’s still got all the same problems. We’ve just dressed up a couple of points or changed the words that we use. But I hate to break it to you, but virtue was taught. I don’t know maybe by the philosopher who actually established the science of ethics. Maybe he knows something about education in virtue. Maybe when Aristotle published his doctrine, which revealed to the world the science of ethics, maybe he knows something about how to teach virtue, the guy who actually did the work, and established the science, what do you think? Or do you think we should leave Aristotle aside? And go follow Dorothy Sayers with her clever idea about how the, how the elementary school, middle school and high school can be renamed, renamed to form, voila, classical education. We’ll just call this the grammar stage. And we’ll call this the the logic stage. And instead of saying our kids are going to high school, we’re not going to talk like that. We’re going to say they’re entering the rhetoric stage. how brilliant, the same exact thing with different names. Hey, if that’s what you want, if what you’re looking for are just appearances. They’re easy to find. There’s all kinds of fads and programs that will give you cute names to talk about. But if you want the real thing, all you have to do is go back past Dorothy Sayers Believe it or not, past Charlotte Mason, believe it or not, past the Protestant Reformation passed the scientific revolution. Back to the Catholic scholastic philosophy, which was established 700 years earlier. Back to the classical liberal arts, which were taught for 1000s of years, by all the wise men through all of church history, where education was already established for 1000s of years. Instead of playing this silly modern game of fads in education, we start with the art of grammar. So let’s get into the practical details your children need to learn to use language effectively, they need to be able to speak effectively, they need to be able to read and write effectively. They need to learn how to use language, not to pass their second grade, standardized test, which is absolutely meaningless unless you play the game, and pretend it’s important, but they need to learn grammar in a certain way, so that it can prepare them for the study of the art of reasoning. And they need to learn the art of reasoning in a certain way, so that it prepares them both for the study of the art of rhetoric, and for the use of that reasoning, as the method of investigation. In any controversial subject. They need to learn to use the art of reason as the means of investigation. They need to learn to use the art of rhetoric. Not how to write an essay to get an A on a college paper, which is irrelevant when they’re 32 years old. But how to actually write effective articles, advertisements, grant proposals, business plans, letters to their relatives, real life communication, how to communicate with their children, how to talk to their employees, how to motivate people. They need to learn the real art of rhetoric so that they could have skill like Julius Caesar had, when it was time to lead an army, or a whole nation. Julius Caesar was classically educated seem to be pretty practical, seems pretty effective. They need to study the three arts of the trivium not some goofy stage of learning, but some actual arts that are measurable by a student’s ability to perform them in real life circumstances. to study the classical languages, because everyone knows that the classical languages are the measure of Christian learning. Without which, everything else is just copying and pasting. The Masters teach from the languages. The fakers read their commentaries and translations. The Masters know the languages. Classical mathematics, begin with the assumption that knowing the order of the world, as it’s presented to us in divine revelation, and by the philosophy of wise men, will be the best preparation for any practical affairs in this natural world. To have a man teaching your children about nature, who’s an atheist, or who claims to be a Christian, but teaches the exact same scientific principles that are taught by the atheists, which were proposed initially by the atheists, but he has somehow claimed them as Christian. Just because they talk about the Earth and the Sun. You can kid yourself and pretend that that’s the way to prepare for success in modern science, the problem is the world as it actually exists outside of the fake classroom is not going to work with that fake science program. Or with that fake science knowledge. The purpose of natural philosophy is to understand the true order of the natural world. Is that the purpose of your child’s high school biology class, or chemistry class? Or is your child merely learning what the book says to pass a test? with no regard for whether or not it’s actually true? outside of that classroom? Natural philosophy is concerned with what’s actually true. What actually works in the real world. When you get into the philosophy of the philosophy of ethics, and we study the virtues and the vices, do you believe that your child is going to be successful in life, if he doesn’t actually learn true doctrine about virtue and vice? If he doesn’t actually become a good person? If he doesn’t actually become virtuous? You think he’s going to succeed in any field? If he’s too lazy to study, or too lazy to work to slothful? If he’s a glutton, and would rather stay home and eat, then go out and study? Do you think he’s going to be successful if he’s a glutton, or slothful or lustful? If your son grows up to be an adulterer, and gets divorced three times, do you think his career is going to be successful? When his income is divided between three different families? Are you just going to measure his success by the salary value, the number that he brings home, and not by what actually happens to that money. Without virtue, no one’s going to be successful. Without a knowledge of true natural philosophy, no one’s going to be a successful scientist unless they just exploit the existing system like many do, and make a living off of it. If that’s what you’re trying to raise just kids who grow up to exploit the existing systems, with all their faults, and all their evils to just find a place to grab a paycheck out of that, if that’s what you’re interested in, yes, you’re right, the K to 12 education can just stick them into jobs, where they can grab a piece of the pie. But if you do that don’t complain anymore about the system. Because you’re part of the system. If you want to be a Christian who can stand outside that system, and not only criticize it with your mouth, but actually live in opposition to it, and do what’s right. That lazy K to 12 education is not going to prepare you for that life. And then to come to theology. The mission of the laity, as I talk about all the time, is to direct direct, not to get jobs in the world and pay their mortgages off. The mission of the laity is to go into the world and make disciples by directing temporal affairs, according to the will of God, what does that even mean? First of all, would your K to 12 education even teach your children that that’s their role in the world? Would it ever even teach them? What the mission of the laity is? Or just send them like mindless sheep into the workforce to go and try and find a spot? They’re supposed to be directing temporal affairs, according to the will of God. How are they going to do that without a thorough theological education that your K to 12 curriculum doesn’t offer? How are they going to even know what the will of God is when they’ve never studied Sacred Scripture? Because all they studied were some silly religion workbooks. They never actually study the Catechism. They just study books about the Catechism. They don’t get into the habit of studying the scriptures daily as a source of constant during direction and wisdom and meditation, where they go for answers to real questions in life, so that they can discern God’s will, and then pursue it in their actual life’s work. Which is the duty of a true Christian. They never even learned these things. These things are not even included in your curriculum. So what are you even talking about? You’re not preparing Christians to go out into the world. You’re just preparing secular workers. And it’s no surprise that they quickly abandon the faith once they get out of your house, because there’s no need to fake it anymore. They can just be what they are. They think like the world they’ve studied, like the world. Now it’s time to just bring this all to perfection, and go ahead and live like the world. Right? Why would that not be expected? their education came from the world, you know that you were afraid to do something other than what the world does, it produced exactly the effect that it should have raising another democratic workforce member. And yet, you expect priests and monks and nuns and military leaders and political leaders, legislators, innovators, from where, why would you expect that from that education. That’s not what that education is even for. That education in the public school was was created to educate street kids who didn’t receive real education, so that they wouldn’t be a bunch of thugs and gangsters in the streets. But that they could find a place to work in the American industrialized workforce. And save the country some money, by hopefully finding some work so that they don’t end up in prison. That’s what motivated the creation of the public school system and the curriculum, which was designed to serve that system. So don’t even pretend that your interest in that system of education, no matter how you dress it up, is intended to send Christian leaders out into the world. That’s not true. That’s not true. If they’re educated by parents who are followers, they’re just going to grow up to be followers, they’re not going to have the wisdom that’s needed to solve problems, present new problems, problems that they didn’t see their math teacher, show them how to do on the board. But problems that require them to actually know the arts and sciences and the principles. And be able by the use of reason to apply those principles through reasoning to new circumstances, circumstances, which are constantly changing. And the changes don’t matter to the people who know the principles. The people who know the principles aren’t dependent on having everything stay the same as when the teacher showed them how to do it. All of the surface can change. And the truly educated can look at the newest circumstances, take hold of their timeless principles, and just get right back to work. in any field. And I’ll give you a quick example. When I was in high school, my father worked in construction, he was an electrical estimator, and worked in New York City. And I used to go with him to the office and I would see his drafting tables and all the cool drafting tools and equipment. And I loved it. I love to draw. And I used to go with my dad and just sit at one of the drafting tables and just draw and I loved it. I thought it was so cool. My background was very mechanical. And yet I was artistic. I love to draw and I said boy, I would love to work in drafting. I would love to work in architecture or mechanical drawing. This is what I’d like to do. And so when I went to high school and I had to choose an elective My high school had mechanical drawing. And so I signed up for mechanical drawing. And I was an excellent student. For three years, I got A’s in mechanical drawing classes. And I was very good at it. And that’s what I wanted to do. That’s what I was playing, I was planning to go to college to study architecture, or some kind of something that was related to mechanical drawing. That’s what I was planning to do. My senior year of high school, my last year in this mechanical drawing program, and I had really gotten good at drafting and lettering, all of these different skills related to that drawing. All of a sudden, our mechanical drawing classroom was was transformed. All the drafting tables were taken away. And they were replaced with computer desks. All of the drawing equipment was gone. And there were just computers on the desks. And the teacher told us as we got started with the new school year, that we need to learn AutoCAD because this is the future of all mechanical drawing. And I sat there with this computer with this, I remember when things come out, they’re always very expensive. So this computer and software that was worth 1000s, and 1000s of dollars. And I sat there and learned how to click to make circles and lines, enter text and lettering symbols. And everything that I loved about drawing. Everything that had been directing my career plans was over in a moment. Because I had absolutely zero interest in drawing on a computer. Plus, there were practical complications of this. At home in my bedroom, I had my own drafting table, I had all my own drafting equipment. I sat home and practice drawing houses and practice drawing pieces of equipment. Well, there was no AutoCAD computer at home, there was no way to practice at home. I had 40 minutes in a drafting class, to play with this computer. And that was it. The circumstances changed, the tools changed. And my interest in that field was not in the field itself. But it was actually in one mode of drawing that I was good at. And that’s what happens in business. Some people think they’re good in a certain field, but they’re only good at some accidental circumstance related to that field. And that field. as technology changes as the market changes as competition increases, as customer demand changes, those circumstances change, and people get bumped out of careers. Thankfully, I learned that when I was a high school senior. And that experience was one of the things that led me to think differently about my future plans. Because I saw that what happened to me with drafting and mechanical drawing could happen in any career. Now the difference is that if somebody would have been there to teach me and say, architecture is an art and science, architecture, is a science that does not depend on the mode by which renderings are made or plans are produced. Architecture is a science. That’s based on principles, on physics, on aesthetics, on design principles, on materials, and costs, on geography, and climate and all of these other factors and To be an architect really doesn’t have anything to do with the tools of the trade, it has to do with the science, I might have been interested still in architecture. And you know where I would learn that from I would learn that from old classical philosophical works on architecture which are still available. After all, contrary to this arrogant K to 12 mindset, the Romans built things that are still standing 1000s of years later. The principles of architecture are ancient, they’re timeless, the science of architecture is timeless. And this is the kind of knowledge but actual success sustained lifelong success throughout careers in any field require non expertise with a certain set of tools that may come and go. Not interest in a certain mode in which some industry is carried out. But in the science or the art of that industry itself, the science and art of agriculture, for example, we can go back to ancient philosophy and find treatises on agriculture. One is by the Roman Cato day article today on agriculture. Entire treatise is written on the science, of household management, farm management, architecture, all practical arts directed by the liberal arts, as the sources of the timeless principles that apply in constantly changing circumstances. The reason why people are able to innovate is because they’re able to look at the market, they’re able to look at customer desire. They’re able to look at what’s going on, in changing circumstances. And they’re able to look to their timeless, unchanging principles. See how those principles apply in new circumstances and implement them. And we call that innovation. But it’s not innovation. Like Solomon said, there’s nothing new under the sun. The circumstances change. The circumstances have an appearance of novelty. But the wise man simply sees the emergence of some new means by which the ancient wisdom can be manifested, and put to work. To the ignorant, standing at the counter, or watching on the television, the work that that man does appears to be some kind of innovation. But it’s actually not. It’s nothing new. It’s nothing but a new application of what is very old. It’s an application in new circumstances of ancient wisdom, ancient arts and sciences, simply applied to new circumstances. We live in a time where in God’s providence, we witnessed one of the greatest circumstantial revolutions in world history. circumstances have changed. The invention of computers and the internet and now, handheld devices and wireless technology is mind boggling. And frankly, I think it’s awesome. It’s awesome. And I say that as a person who is who knows ancient philosophy, who knows the kind of the kind of arts and sciences that I’m talking about. I know these things. I’m, I’m a pretty rare bird in the sense that I study and know these things. And when I look at the technology, I say to myself, wow, this is really awesome. Aristotle would have loved this. Aristotle would have loved this, Socrates would be on YouTube. I don’t know what Jesus would have done. Jesus’s ministry was limited because he had to preach to Israel specifically, as part of his mission, it was a principle of his mission. So I don’t know that Jesus is teaching would have been broadcast, it wouldn’t have made any sense. But if the apostles had recorded his sermons, and talks and miracles, on handheld devices, I’m pretty confident that they would all be on YouTube today. And the day will probably come when we see miracles performed on social media, not goofy crazy health and wealth preachers with actors in the audience, but I mean, real divine, works captured on film, and shared that go viral on social media. It’s coming. We’ll also see what the Bible warns about false and lying wonders broadcast through these media. But this is what allows me to make the classical Liberal Arts Academy successful. There are 1000 people who claim that they would like to be classicist, and they’d like to teach classical education, but they’ll never figure out how to actually do anything. Because they don’t have the wisdom that they pretend to have, and that it doesn’t allow them. To make practical use of it. They, what they need to do usually is try to pretend that we need to stick with the old fashioned way, we need to keep everything old fashioned, we need to go back 50 years, we need to go back 100 years, we need to dress like people who lived in 1940. For some reason, as if that’s more classical, we need to go back to the 1920s. And men need to need to buy fountain pens, and they need to write letters by hand with fountain pens, because that’s classical, even though it’s got nothing to do with classical anything, they simply are not able to make sustainable works possible in changing circumstances because they don’t have the knowledge that they are pretending to have. They’re just attached to some accidental circumstance. And they’re going to pretend that their love for that circumstance is a mark of their devotion to tradition or to classical education. Just like my devotion to hand drawing in architecture was to the actual art and science of architecture. It’s fake, they’re fakers. It’s not the real wisdom. And of course that gives classical education. A silly appearance, makes a mockery of it, and leads to these kinds of questions. How can a classical Catholic education prepare a kid for the modern world? It’s because you’re looking at teachers in these fake classical Catholic schools, who can barely find work in the modern world who are working in schools where they make $30,000 a year and can barely feed their families. And you’re asking, why would that man’s education be desirable for my children? And that’s a just question. Because what that man is doing is not classical education. I’ve been in those schools. I know what these teachers are like. They’re barely educated. They pretend to have some kind of learning because they read Gk Chesterton, or because they read English translations of Homer and Virgil. They can barely find work in the world. And they’re the parents of the children, look at these men and say, how does this How will this education help my children and I agree, that education, that fake education will not help your children. It’s useless, it’s fake. It’s not even. You know, the problem with it is that it’s neither. It’s neither a modern education which at the bare minimum, if you gave your children just the dumb dumb modern K to 12 education, at least they would be able to do something and maybe for For parents who aren’t interested in anything other than just checking the boxes, maybe that’s good enough. But classical education, real classical Catholic education makes anything possible for these children, because they’ll have the wisdom and knowledge of the actual arts and sciences that can apply in any vocation, in any career, in constantly changing circumstances, that will make them the leaders and the innovators, not because they are so capable of jumping ahead of everybody. But because when everything changes, when all the dirt is stirred up by by changes in the world, and all the circumstances change on the surface, they will be stable and steadfast. And they’ll simply look at the new circumstances, apply the old principles and lead and appear to be innovators, when in fact, they’re actually just preserving the ancient principles in new modes. That’s what the true wisdom does. That’s what the true wisdom does. And I’ll give you an illustration. true wisdom is like the sun. When does the sunshine always the sun is always shining. The sun is always shining. And the sun is a symbol of a wise man, his wisdom is always present. Always shining, always relevant, always the right answer, always, always there. But in front of that sun, we have this constantly changing sky, constantly changing weather, we’ve got rain, wind, clouds are constantly changing, constantly changing. And all of these clouds, and storms are like these changing circumstances in professional life. A wise man is like the sun. He’s above these changing circumstances, they don’t affect him. And when that wisdom is combined with the diligence, where when all of your former works are scrambled and ruined by changing circumstances, and you have to start from scratch, and reinvent your your profession. The wise man with that constantly abiding wisdom. And his willingness to just scrap what’s old and start from scratch and rebuild is what allows for sustainable, wise, profitable works. In the real world. He understands that the work he does constantly changes, he understands that that requires constant flexibility, constant adaptation, constant willingness to start over again, to redesign the website, to re organize the company to redesign how the product is manufactured, to rethink the product to read, to change the marketing scheme and plan even though we’ve spent hundreds of 1000s of dollars on this marketing campaign to scrap it because the markets changed and to invest in new marketing campaign. And to understand that that’s just how the world works. And to be willing to do that work, not to be like some lazy worker, who hopes that he can just work once do something successful, and then live off at the rest of his life. You see people talking about passive income on the internet. There’s no such thing, maybe for a year, maybe for a couple years. But there’s no such thing as passive income. You can be deceived by some temporary success, because you just luck out. And you nail something in the market just at the right time by God’s providence and it makes you successful for a time. But then the market shifts and changes and everything you’ve done falls apart. A good example of this is Bill Gates even though he’s an incredibly wealthy man, he created Microsoft because the timing was just perfect in God’s providence. He was the man in the right place at the right time with the right product, and the thing took over the world. But Bill Gates missed on issue after issue after issue. And he could have controlled this whole world if he was wiser than he is. He missed out on the importance of mobile, he missed out on the importance of the search engine. He focused too much on hard soft on hardware. He underestimated the role that the cloud, the internet would play. And he missed opportunity after opportunity after opportunity. Because he really wasn’t wise, he was lucky. He was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, to become a billionaire to become the richest man in the world. But still, the opportunities that he missed were bigger than the opportunity that he seized. And that allowed Google because the nerds at Google nailed it. When they came out with their ugly search engine, and everybody looked at it like What is this thing? And no one understood that Google had it figured out. They knew what was actually coming. And they invested everything that they had in the functionality. And they didn’t care about decorating their website, or advertising. They invested everything in functionality. And they took over the internet. And the numbers, if you look are are incredible. I think it’s 92% of all searches on the internet run through Google. Bill Gates missed that. He never was able to figure out how to get into the search business. And if you look today, Bing is garbage when it comes to search. But that’s an example of luck, as opposed to wisdom, on the other hand. Google is an example of some sharp dudes that had the philosophy figured out. And you could say, well, they weren’t classically educated. But I but I challenged that I challenge you to dig in to the lives of the men who founded and developed Google and I guarantee you’ll find radically different thinking than your are taught in a K to 12 curriculum, I guarantee you’ll find the opposite. I’ll do the study myself and prove it. But you’ll find that they’re not raised, like the modern K to 12 school students. Another example of this kind of wisdom is an Elan musk. Elon Musk gets it he gets the principles and he just applies them if you if you listen to Ilan Musk, and I know no one will because they’ll think that he’s like rather practical. And they’d rather listen to some goofball criticize the pump because he’s a Catholic. Then listen to an actual man doing stuff in the world. As if criticizing the pope is religious and inventing new cars is carnal. But that’s how Catholics think it’s just all upside down. If you look at Elon Musk, and you go on YouTube and search for a video or an interview with Ilan Musk, where he talks about his is going to first principles in problem solving. You can find these talks. Ilan Musk has a method by which he comes up with these solutions. He’s not just lucky, he has a method. And his method is that he answers questions and solves problems by ignoring everything that exists. And just looking at a problem and asking, How can we solve that problem? He doesn’t care what anyone else has done. He doesn’t care what anyone else is doing. He simply looks at what’s possible. And he asks, How can we solve this problem? And he relies on what he calls first principles. He’s not trying to improve what exists. He’s just trying to solve problems directly from the principles of the arts and sciences. And this dude is an example of what it looks like to have a Philosopher’s mind in modern business. Imagine if he had imagined If his mind was better, imagine if he had a Catholic mind. Imagine if he had all of St. Thomas’s Summa theologica in his head, helping him. Imagine if he had Aristotle’s natural philosophy and ethics in his head, guiding him and acting like a light in his path. Imagine what he’d be doing then. He’s doing this stuff with a relatively poor education. Imagine what he could be doing if he had the opportunity like Alexander the Great to sit and be tutored by Aristotle. Elon Musk is just scratching the surface. But you’ll find more wisdom in an interview with Elan musk than with 10 Catholic speakers. And to tell you the truth, I spend more time listening to men like Elon Musk than any of these modern Catholic speakers because I don’t even see that they have anything to offer. It’s it’s usually like Oprah Winfrey religion, like first grade Sunday school class. I mean, if I go if I pick up the Spiritual Exercises by St. Ignatius and read real spiritual direction, real practical, experiential, devotional wisdom from a saint and then flip to some modern Catholic YouTube channel or TV show or radio program. There’s nothing worth even listening to. I would rather listen to Gary Vee, talk about marketing technology or listen to Elan musk talk about problem solving. I’d rather listen to Jeff Bezos talk about business in the 21st century. At least it’s useful and interesting. I don’t want to hear how Pope Francis is not really the Pope, from some goofball, Catholic teacher. And that’s the kind of junk Catholics spend their time on, instead of actually listening to people who are successful who are directing the whole world we live in. And then when it’s time to talk about preparing your kids for business, you’ve never listened to the business leaders. You’re listening to weirdos talk about just crazy conspiracy theories or political squabbles. Party politic nonsense. So the things that you do in the name of preparing your kids for the world. It’s not even true. The people running the world are telling you to do one thing you don’t do that. The saints and doctors of the church tell you to do something, you don’t do that. What do you actually do? You just stick your kids on the dum dum pass the public school pass. And you justify it by saying, oh, we’re concerned about them having options in the modern marketplace? What options? All those Dumb Dumb jobs are going to be replaced by artificially intelligence powered bots over the next 20 years? Whatever are they going to do? Do you ever think about these things? For all this talk about preparing your kids for the marketplace? What are they going to do? Do you even know how business is changing and developing? What are they going to do? I don’t think parents think about these things. I think they just bury their heads in the sand and pretend that by keeping their kids in the main path, at least they can’t be blamed when hell breaks out 10 years down the road. That’s what I think they do. I think they just try to cover their butts by putting their kids on a course that everybody else is on. So they look safe when it fails in 10 years. Lastly, and I know this is long already. Lastly, let’s talk about religious vocations real quick. I’ve sent students into religious communities out of the classical Liberal Arts Academy. So right off the bat, I can offer I can offer samples of my students who have become religious. So once again, this argument that well what about religious vocations? What about them? Like I said, if we if the numbers that Seaton reports about the 1000s and 1000s and 1000s of students in their program every year Over 40 years is true. They certainly aren’t turning into religious. The classical Liberal Arts Academy has sent students into religious life. And I guarantee you that those students will tell you they were inspired to religious life by their studies in the classical Liberal Arts Academy. guarantee it. I can provide evidence that they would, they’d be willing to say, so what did the religious communities want, they want students who are actually interested in religious life. They don’t want kids coming in who are eager to become religious. So they can take pictures and post them on Facebook and send them to mom, as some kind of like, feel good campaign for their parents. They’re interested in real people who are interested in contemplative life. Well, let me ask you this. Where do students learn contemplative life? In your K to 12? curriculum? What do they learn the history of the philosophers who lived the contemplative life? Where do they learn that tradition of contemplative living among the wise men all throughout history? Where do they become part of that tradition? Never. In that K to 12 curriculum, it’s the opposite. There’s no contemplation. You don’t even have reasoning in the curriculum. There’s no philosophy in the curriculum. Do you even study Sacred Scripture? Nothing? Not even part of that curriculum? How would it possibly lead students to interest? genuine interest in religious life? How would it that children aren’t well taught in theology? They don’t read the Summa theologica and get real persuasive answers to the questions of religion. How would they devote their life to the sacramental ministry when they don’t even understand it? Unless they’re just going to pair it the ew tn talk. But that doesn’t last. The priests on ew tn don’t even last. You can pair it all of the TV catchphrases. You can pair it and you can pretend and you can act. But it’s not the real thing because the foundation is not even part of the child’s life. That can be demonstrated by the curriculum he studies. religious life is a devotion to the divine office as a devotional system that they live by. Don’t you think that an educational program or a homeschool that was going to lead children to embrace religious life would train them in the recitation of the Divine office, that’s how St. Thomas Aquinas learned he was raised in a Benedictine monastery. You think that’s stupid? You think you’re not going to do that and then raise somebody like St. Thomas, that makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? No, it makes no sense. Of course not. They didn’t do these things for nothing. We can go back in history and see how the saints were raised. So no one’s going to make this case that the K to 12 curriculum is actually a plan to lead kids to religious life. So don’t bring up religious vocations. Religious vocations belong to classical Catholic education, go look in history. Find a vocations crisis. Find the vocations crisis in a society where the classical liberal arts were regularly studied and taught. Go find me in medieval religious vocations crisis. There’s no such thing. So how are you going to question the classical liberal arts? With any concern about religious vocations? You have absolutely no leg to stand on with a K to 12 curriculum. It’s never produced religious vocations. So that’s not going to work. Business won’t work. Technology won’t work. Because as I said, poorly educated kids won’t even know what to do with technology. And the kids and the people who innovate and actually do things are going to be people who think like philosophers and theologians. Not the dum dums who study sixth grade computer class, or like me, a kid sitting in 10th grade learning how to how to use a drafting ruler, and compass, dum dum education, that doesn’t even work. The leaders are going to be the ones who enter into these fields, knowing principles that apply in constantly changing circumstances. And when those circumstances change, they can say, Yep, I see it. We just need to do this, and this and use this and this. And then we can preserve our principle in a new manifestation. And that’s what businesses, same principles. That’s why Solomon can say nothing is nothing is new under the sun. No one can say, look, this is new. Of course, the iPhone is new. So obviously, that’s not what Solomon’s talking about, unless you just assume he’s dumb. Obviously, that’s not what Solomon is talking about. What he means is that while all of these circumstances change in life, while the appearance has changed, and the circumstances change, nothing’s new. wise man sees everything is the same. We just have to reorganize, we just have to adapt, we just have to use different materials, we just have to use a different medium. But it’s the same work. The same challenge the same solution, just with a new set of circumstances. And that’s the education. That’s the wisdom that children need to succeed in the world, the K to 12 curriculum, and I don’t care what you call it, how you brand it, how you change the labels, what pictures you put on the books. The modern K to 12 curriculum was not designed to raise Christian leaders, the K to 12 curriculum was to take street kids and put them into factories as good democratic workers. That’s the purpose of the K to 12. Education, bare minimum. No principles, no liberal arts, no philosophy, no theology. And that’s true, even if they go to a Catholic school. Say Same, same problems. It’s true in a classical Christian school, I don’t care what they call it, if they don’t teach the seven liberal arts and classical philosophy, and scholastic theology, and Sacred Scripture, if they don’t teach the children to pray, and to meditate, and to study but play games with all of this silly surface nonsense with a bunch of ignorant teachers who’ve never studied the subjects themselves. And pretended to stick in uniforms on the kids makes them all highly educated, prep kids, if you if you’re silly enough to fall for that, then there’s nothing I can say. But look at the curriculum. If it’s accredited by the public school, accrediting agencies, may be a red flag should pop up and say, Hey, wait, maybe this is actually the same thing. Maybe it’s accredited, because it’s actually the same thing. Wake up. The reason why the secular accrediting agency will accredit the school that you believe is different from the public school, which is accredited by the same agency. Maybe it’s because it’s the same education with the same faults, and the same problems being approved of by the same ignorant people. Find me a world leader. And I’m not talking about a politician who loves the modern education system, because it’s just bread and circuses applied to education. Find me a world leader in business or technology. Find me an Abbot in a respectable monastery or convent. Find me a leader who says we really hope that our kids come into the monastery with a K to 12 modern education go find me, that religious leader go find me that religious leader go find me a bishop, who if presented with an 18 year old boy who has been trained in the classical liberal arts, who knows Because the scriptures knows Latin and Greek knows scholastic philosophy, has read the Summa theologica. And praise the divine office, go present that kid to a bishop, and show me the bishop who sends that kid away and says, Now, we really are looking for kids with a K to 12. Education. It’s such a bunch of baloney. Such a bunch of baloney, there’s no justification for Catholics to have kids in these silly K to 12 programs that you mom’s No, we’re not the educational programs studied by the saints. So you pretend to admire? Why not be sincere? Say, Hey, you know what, we’re going to not only stick a picture of St. Thomas on our refrigerator, we’re going to actually follow the example and advice of St. Thomas. Why not do that? So, to wrap this up, because it’s already way too long. How does the classical liberal arts How does classical Catholic education prepare students for what you’re going to call modern business or religious vocations? It teaches them wisdom, which is what they actually need in a constantly changing world. Where everything in the business is constantly changing. getting a degree in a certain field doesn’t get you a job. So I don’t know why any parent would make a big deal of the degree. A kid who has wisdom can get a degree. A kid who is virtuous, and has true Christian wisdom, can get a degree, no problem. getting a degree doesn’t get you a job. You still have to get a job. So what job are you going to get that, uh, that a highly educated, virtuous Christian is not going to beat you in? What job could anyone do better than that a virtuous Christian, educated in wisdom, who’s going to beat that kid in a job interview, he can do everything that that worldly kid can do. He can do everything that that K to 12 kid can do. And he offers 50 other benefits. Even if you get the job. That doesn’t mean you’re going to keep the job. So who’s going to keep the job when the company decides that they need to cut some staff, who gets kept on the dum dums? Who just do what they’re told and check the boxes, they punch in, punch out, take all their vacation days, have to be supervised, don’t bring any intelligence to the meetings have nothing to contribute, need to be told what to do you think they’re the people who keep the jobs? Or do you think the people who actually have wisdom and are resourceful? And are the kinds of employees that can tell their boss No problem, I can figure that out. I can find a way to do my job in different circumstances with different media. because things are changing, I can I can overcome this change and continue to do my job because I’m wise. And I’m virtuous, I’m not going to stomp my foot and huff and puff and complain because the procedures have to change. And I got used to those procedures. And I like just coming to work and being able to punch in and out not even think about what I’m doing and grab my paycheck. Those are the people that get laid off. They’re just dead weight. Those are the people who get replaced by the self checkout registers. And by the automated software programs, those are the people that technology is working to replace. You can’t replace the wise resourceful worker who doesn’t mind redoing things when the market changes. That worker is not the one who gets laid off. It’s the dum dum that gets laid off. And everybody knows who that person is in the office. So even if you get a job If you’re just assembly line education, dumb, dumb, checks, the minimum requirements, you’re not the kind of person who’s going to keep the job. So you’re just back to square one. And then lastly, if you actually want to fulfill the mission of the laity, all of that’s just assuming we’re just workers in the world, that’s not even true. If you want to actually pursue the mission of the laity, which is to direct temporal affairs, according to the will of God, you’re going to have to start your own businesses, you’re going to have to come up with your own solutions, and figure out how to implement them practically in the real world profitably, you’re probably not going to be able to get government funding, because you’re not going to be able to sign those non discrimination policies, which tell you that you have to hire people, regardless of their religion, regardless of their sexual orientation. Really Christian, you’re just going to go hire anybody, regardless of their religion, or sexual orientation, really, for that, for that government money, really. The work that you do as a Christian can be done by anybody. They don’t even have to be Christians to do the work, really. But it’s Christian work. But Christians aren’t needed to do it Really? Of course not. You’re going to have to come up with solutions that actually follow God’s will, and put principles of Catholic theology and scholastic philosophy into action. You’re going to have to build businesses that are profitable at the same time. How is anyone going to do that with a K to 12 education, how it’s going to get more and more challenging. I’m warning everybody, that technology is going to put armies of people out of work. And if if you think that this basic universal income is a joke, the reason why basic universal income is a thing in political discussions, is because the politicians know that nobody is going to have a job. They see where the technology is going. And they know there are going to be armies and armies, millions of people who have no marketable skills, because the the AI bots are going to put them all out of work. And if you’re just checking minimum boxes, you are walking right into the trap. just assuming that the workplace is not going to change. How dumb can you get? What do you want me to say? How dumb can you get? What we need is classical Catholic education. Because our children need to be raised to be wise, to be virtuous, to be resourceful, because God’s ways are never going to go out of fashion. God’s way, is never going to become inferior to any other way. It’s always going to be wisdom of all wisdom, light of all light. And those who possess it are always going to lead always. That’s how classical Catholic studies prepares children for the real, real world, not the fake real world that people talk about the real, real world. So I hope that’s helpful. I know, I’m kind of getting after people here in these talks. The reason why is because I don’t think it’s a joke, folks, I think that these changes that technology is bringing are going to radically affect the market. They’re not going to let these Christian kids who didn’t get a real education. Just find spots in cubicles here and there. Those cubicles are going to be gone. There is going to be no need for anybody there are there are robots today writing marketing copy, if you know what that means. That’s a whole industry that’s going to be wiped out by artificial intelligence. But anyway, I’ve got a wrap This up. I hope that that gets your brains moving. I hope that that arouses you or rouses you a bit to take this stuff seriously. I hope that it challenges and unmasks these silly excuses, that people are giving their kids K to 12 education in the name of modern business, which is false, or have religious vocations which is false. There’s only a few reasons why anybody would give their kids in K to 12 education, and I’ve named them a it’s just what everybody else is doing. And we’re trying to just cover our butts. So we can’t be blamed for the consequences. Number two, or B, I forget what I said. The second reason is because we’re too lazy to arrogant to learn an alternative. I think I just combined to in that last one. So anyway, let’s say two reasons. Number one, we’re just following the crowd to avoid taking a risk. So we can cover our butts. Like I said, when bad things happen, we can just say, I don’t know. It’s just this society. Just how things are. We just did what everybody else is doing. Can’t be us. Wink, wink. That’s one reason. The other reason is because the parents are just too lazy, or too arrogant to learn something else. Oh, the third reason was because the parents just can’t think outside of that box even know of anything else. So that’s all hope that’s helpful.
