Modern Natural Sciences for CLAA Students

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Dear friends,

Beginning this week, I will be teaching through the natural sciences for students in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy.  The first videos for the course will be available today.

I intend to lead students through the study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which are the three chief courses in the natural sciences, and then into higher sciences once those courses are complete.  I intend to provide students with a complete course of high school science instruction that exceeds modern high school requirements.

Not only will I lead students through the modern natural sciences, but I will do so in a critical manner.  I will be careful to help Catholic students learn the content of the modern sciences, but I will also help them to reflect on these sciences in the light of classical philosophy and Catholic Theology.  I will read through every lesson in every course and comment to help students make efficient progress through the studies, while also providing them with instructor-led activity that can be counted for high school credits.  We will discuss the controversial issues in the natural sciences, and will engage with them through discussions, essays and more.

It’s worth noting that I was a Dean’s list pre-Med Biology major at Rutgers University before switching to classical studies.  I worked in a Chemistry laboratory while in college and am very comfortable with the natural sciences.  I have a great appreciation for natural sciences when they are kept in their proper place in Christian education, and I have a great deal of practical experience with the natural sciences because of my management of plants and animals on the farm through the years, which I intend to include in these courses.

Therefore, if you are interested in a course of natural science studies within the context of classical Catholic studies, we’ll have a solution for you.

God bless your studies,
William C. Michael, Headmaster
