About the Classical Liberal Arts Academy

The Classical Liberal Arts Academy, or “CLAA”, was founded in 2008 by Mr. William C. Michael. After 10 years of work as a private school Classics teacher, Mr. Michael wished to “research, restore, publish and teach the classical liberal arts”, providing Catholic students with a curriculum that would help them understand and appreciate the contemplative life. In 2021, the CLAA offers over 100 online courses in five subject areas: Trivium, Quadrivium, Philosophy, Theology and Humanities. The Academy leads students directly through the master texts in these subjects, including the works of Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Cicero, the inspired Prophets and Apostles, St. Thomas Aquinas and many more.

The CLAA is owned and operated by William C. and Dania Michael. Mr. Michael graduated from Rutgers University with an Honors degree in Classics and Ancient History and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He has over 20 years of full-time experience in classroom teaching, school administration and educational publishing. Mrs. Michael also studied for a degree in Classics from Rutgers University and worked in elementary education before being a full-time homeschooling mother. The Michaels are Roman Catholics and have ten children, all of whom study in the CLAA.
